From 2000 to 2006, a committed membership drive was undertaken by the Chelsea Foundation. The goal of this membership drive was twofold. The first objective was to raise enough capital to secure the donation/purchase of the 21 acres of land from the Meredith family, to build the 3 soccer fields that currently exist on the Chelsea Foundation lands in partnership with the municipality, and to take the Meredith Centre project to its final phase in which we now find ourselves. As a result of this membership drive, $150,000 from over 100 Chelsea families was raised. These families, and many others who donated their professional time, are known as the "New Pioneers." Individual memberships of $25, family memberships of $100, and "Pioneer" donations of $1000 collectively comprised the membership drive. The second objective was to create a mailing list of community members to whom the Chelsea Foundation could send communication updates with regard to the status of the project and/or upcoming events; in other words, to create a medium through which community dialogue and engagement about the Meredith Centre project could be cultivated.
As of March 2009, we find ourselves, entering the final stage of the Meredith Centre Project. the realization phase. With over $6.1 million raised through provincial and federal grants, the Chelsea Foundation has now moved into the 'homestretch' role of this project which is to raise $600,000 towards the remaining 1/3 capital required to build the centre. In order to do this, we have launched the 'Meredith Centre Build Campaign' which will be the primary focus of the Chelsea Foundation for the next 24 months. All donations made to the Chelsea Foundation over this period, be they from individuals, families, high worth donors or corporations, will go directly to the Meredith Centre Build Campaign. Thus, this current campaign will replace our former membership drive.
However, we are still keen to build upon our contact list of community members who support the project and who want to be included on our communication list for electronic newsletters and/or community postings.
